abril: Pascua (Easter)

Hola,

March has flown by with DSTP and all the other activities scheduled. It is now April and Easter is coming. The students are looking forward to Spring Break. Fitness Day and Sports Day are this month. Students are ready for a little break. It is great that Spring Break is almost here for them.

Alot of things have been going on. Here is the scoup....

DSTP is over!!!! =)

Trimester 2 has ended. There a few students with an "I" on their report cards. An "I" means an incomplete. These students are missing an assessment or need to re-assess on an assessment. All of these assessments need to be taken before Spring Break. I have already sent out notices out to the students with study guides. Students can see me before school/ after school or by appointment during school.

Latin

Projects:

Students have been working on their project assigned and should finish them before Spring Break. Projects not finished will be graded as is; NO EXCEPTIONS. Rubrics have been coming out. Students are able to grade their own projects according to the rubric. This is to see if they have done what is needed to get a good grade.

Quiz
Students should study vocabulary on previous blog. Will be having a quiz in a couple weeks after Spring Break.
7th grade- house vocabulary (rooms/notes/types of houses);
8th grade-education vocabulary and notes about the type of education recieved in Pompeiian times.


Spanish

k-3:

Kindergarden -3rd grade have recently finished units and have started a new unit. The new unit is all about Animals.

Animal Vocabulary:

abeja- bee
pato- duck
gato- cat
oso- bear
pajaro- bird
caballo- horse
rana- frog
perro- dog
pez- fish
vaca- cow

Please help your student learn and study these animals.

4th grade:

Fourth grade will be finishing up their unit on Simple sentences soon. They have gone over Spanish subject pronouns and Basic Spanish verbs. Students will need to study soon for a quiz.

Quiz (4th):
Please study the notes about 1. Basic Spanish Verbs and 2. the Action verbs (vocabulary). Students should be able to identify the major parts of a verb and should know what is in their notes. The following are notes the students should have from class.

Basic Spanish Verbs:

Infinitive- a verb in its most complete form (with an ending)
Example: hablar (to speak)

Spanish Endings-all Spanish verbs in their infinitive form will end in one of the following endings: ar, er, ir.
Example: hablar

Stem- the main part of the verb (without the ending) that gives meaning.
Example: hablar

Verbs are organized by their endings. Hablar (to speak), cantar (to sing) and caminar (to walk) are known as Ar Verbs. Comer (to eat), vender (to sell) and beber (to drink) are known as Er Verbs. Abrir (to open), dormir (to sleep) and vivir (to live) are known as Ir verbs.


5-6 grades:

5-6th graders have been doing a unit on simple sentences also. They should know the above notes under 4th grade. I will be giving a quiz on the above information soon.

The 5-6th graders will be continuing the simple sentences unit a little longer. They will learn how to conjugate simple verbs in the present tense. The students will apply their knowledge to be able to communicate in simple sentences.

Quiz (5th & 6th)
1- Quiz on the same info as the 4th graders.
2- Basic verb conjugations.
3- Action verbs
